| Chongqing - a famous city for its history and culture in China,
is the cultural origin in ancient Sichuan. As the core in southwest
of China and upstream region of Yangtze River, Chongqing is an inner
port and a communication hinge. Furthermore, Three Gorges is featured
for its rich biological resources, mineral resources and hydro resources,
which is potential for further development. In Mar.1997, Chongqing
was granted as a municipal city at the fifth meeting of Eighth National

| Chongqing is technically strong with professional technicians of
560,000 including 190,000 senior and junior technicians. There are
78 universities/colleges belonging to municipal city or higher grade
and 17 state or municipal laboratories, engineering technical centers,

of scientific study and technical development. As the "Science
and Education" strategic enforced, science and technology have

and school enrollment of over 4 million with 25 colleges/universities,
198 master degree departments, 52 doctor degree departments, and 5

60000 students and over 18000 primary schools and middle schools with
3.7 million students in schools. Therefore, the potentiality of human
